The Thirteenth Annual

Short Short Story Film Festival

How do filmmakers tell a story in under six minutes?

We found out at the 13th annual Short Short Story Film Festival!

The Short Short Story Film Festival is a competitive international festival of films that tell a story in under six minutes, celebrating brevity in filmmaking with both live-action and animated films.

The festival has taken place every November since 2007, in Providence and other cities in the northeastern United States.

Festival Wrap-up

The 13th edition of the festival played to enthusiastic capacity crowds, and we extend our thanks to David and everyone at Acoustic Java for making the day run smoothly, and of course to everyone who came out to support the festival.

Thirty-four films, including twenty live-action and fourteen animated films, from twenty countries on six continents, participated.

Culled from several hundred submissions from over sixty countries, the films respresent a wide variety of styles, themes, and techniques.

Festival Awards

Unique among film festivals, we commission previous festival winners to make current awards. Check out this amazing "making of" from 2018 winner Eric Giessmann of Lava Machine, creating both Jury awards for 2019.

The Jury awards were voted on by panels of judges consisting of previous interviewees from Spoiler Alert Radio. To see the list of judges, click here.

Additionally, audiences selected their favorite three films in each program, Heartstrings and Headtrip. Interestingly, for this year, the very first and very last film to screen each won an award.

Festival Press

The festival got a write up and recommendation on Go Providence.

Providence's East Side Monthly magazine has a terrific article about Acoustic Java, which also mentions the festival.

The festival was highlighted in the Providence Daily Dose and the Providence Journal as well, along with the Boston Globe.

Internationally, the festival received two mentions from the Iranian Mehr News Agency regarding the three Iranian films screening in the festival; read them here and here.
